There is no Planet B!

There is only one Earth, so humans (and businesses) must work to conserve our planet's environment.

A regenerative business focuses on regenerating people, places and the planet. It acknowledges its place in the entire system where it operates – its community, industry, and resources – and uses that knowledge of interdependence in its strategic decision-making.

4 eco-friendly reasons to buy refurbished electronics

Refurbished or renewed hardware does not go through any manufacturing process, which means the process is as green and carbon-efficient as possible.

1. Refurbishing prevents the destruction of core minerals necessary for manufacturing new items.
2. Create less waste for landfill. This is important because many electronic items contain toxic components.
3. Reduce carbon footprint generated by mining, manufacturing and transporting new items.
4. The performance of older electronic items are often acceptable to many people; no real need to buy the latest version.

Examples of refurbished electronics include computers, mobile phones and tablets, smartwatches and even cars.

Eradicate Malaria through Social Innovation

The 25th April is World Malaria Day. Eradication is the only sustainable approach to addressing malaria.

Social innovation can be used to eradicate malaria by addressing the underlying root causes of the disease, such as poverty, lack of access to healthcare, and lack of education. This can be done through initiatives like providing mosquito nets, improving access to healthcare, and providing education about the disease. Additionally, community-based interventions such as using insecticide-treated bed nets, spraying insecticides in high-risk areas, and improving water storage can be used to reduce the spread of the disease. These efforts are essential to reducing the prevalence of malaria and ultimately eliminating it.

Seeking Equity Over Equality

In business, equity refers to fairness and impartiality in resource distribution and opportunities by considering individual needs and circumstances. On the other hand, equality refers to treating everyone the same, regardless of their specific needs and circumstances.

While both are important, equity recognises that people may require different forms of support to achieve equal outcomes, e.g. offering flexible work arrangements or targeted training programs to address specific skills gaps. By prioritising equity over equality, businesses can create a more inclusive and supportive environment for all employees. Learn more SDG5

Ideas are the rocket fuel of the organisation

UN Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 9 seeks to build resilient infrastructure, promote inclusive and sustainable industrialisation and foster innovation.

An organisation can encourage innovation by adopting an ideas scheme; either a manual or digital system. A digital system has the benefits of greater engagement, transparency, management of ideas, and less bureaucracy and cost.

QuoLux offers a web-based system for managing an organisation's ideas and innovation process. This system achieves real benefits and you can request more information from here.

Enhancing Our Reputation & Brand

Since the beginning of the electric grid, power companies have placed most power plants close to cities. Railways and pipelines are to ship fossil fuels from extraction locations to the power plants to make electricity.

This model doesn’t work with solar and wind because many of the best places to generate electricity are far from urban centres. We will need much longer lines to move that power from where it is generated to where it is consumed. We will also need more lines because demand will only go up in the years ahead as we electrify more things (like our cars).

Power transmission is key to our clean energy future. Our grid needs to bear the future electricity needs of our population.

What is Wellbeing Economy?

A well-being economy promotes the idea that public interests should determine economics and not the other way around.

Rather than pursuing economic growth through narrowly defined indicators like GDP, a well-being economy monitors and values what truly matters: our health, nature, education & communities.

Good Dividends are a new way of thinking about creating business value that supports well-being economy initiatives.

The Ozone Layer is Recovering

Focused, collective human action to save the ozone layer has worked as hoped, and it may recover in just decades, the UN says.

The ozone layer (a thin part of the Earth's atmosphere that absorbs most of the ultraviolet radiation from the Sun) began depleting in the 1970s, causing potential harm to humans and other living things. Chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs) were blamed for eating away at the ozone layer and found in spray cans, fridges, foam insulation and air conditioners. An international agreement in 1987 to stop using harmful CFCs has been successful.
